Considered by many to be the greatest general in all human history, Alexander the Great has appeared on many coins throughout time, but none like this! Struck in five ounces of highly pure 99.9% fine silver, this coin features Alexander the Great in dramatic high relief on concave surfaces—vibrantly colorized, and hand-applied antiquing.

A born leader and blessed with unlimited depths of charisma, Alexander was born 356 B.C. in a part of ancient Greece called Macedonia. Following the assassination of his father, King Philip II of Macedon, Alexander became king at 19 and led the Macedonian Army from Greece to India creating an empire that covered most of the then-known world. Hailed as a god during his own lifetime, Alexander died—some say he was poisoned—at the age of 33. His short reign from 336 to 323 B.C. marked the beginning of the Hellenistic Age, and coins bearing his likeness were struck in cities all over the ancient map. His legacy is still felt today for during his brief-yet-glorious 13-year reign, he built many cities in conquered lands which he often named after himself, including Alexandria in Egypt.

The design pays tribute to the life and legacy of Alexander the Great. It shows the youthful king astride his horse, Bucephalus, leading his men in battle. The added colorization of a red hue effectively symbolizes the blood from the battlefield. The coin’s obverse features the Republic of Chad Coat of Arms and a depiction of Alexander’s shield.
