This massive, 65 mm coin is part of Cameroon’s Revolutionary War series of giant silver coins “From 13 Colonies to One Nation.” It pays tribute to the Siege of Yorktown (September 28–October 19, 1781), a joint Franco-American land and sea campaign that entrapped a major British army on a peninsula at Yorktown, Virginia, and forced its surrender, virtually ending military operations in the American Revolution.
Based On A Historic Patriotic Painting
The colorized obverse of this 2,000 Francs Cameroon legal-tender coin struck in one ounce of highly pure 99.9% fine silver is a reproduction of French artist Eugene Lami’s massive 1840 painting Storming of Redoubt 10 During the Siege of Yorktown that takes up an entire wall in the Old Senate Chamber in the Virginia State Capitol.
