In 2020, The Royal Canadian Mint made history when it struck the world’s first “Extraordinary High Relief” coins. These coins featured designs that rose incredible 5.95 mm from the surface of the coins. Flash forward to 2022, and the Canadians have done it again—this time with the massive high relief commemorating the Timber Wolf with designs that are even higher than the first-ever Extraordinary High Relief edition!

Not only does the coin feature the alert and pointy-eared head of a shaggy Northern Grey Timber Wolf, but its furry face rises more than 6 mm off the surface of the coin! If you turn this coin to the side and look at it from the edge, the Wolf’s lupine head seems to rise from the coin like a mountain rising from the plains!

The tremendous pressure required to create these Extraordinary High Relief (EHR) coins makes providing them with a proof finish a monumental challenge—but The Royal Canadian Mint accomplished just that! This $25 legal-tender coin was struck in a full ounce of highly pure 99.99% fine silver and comes in gorgeous Gem Proof condition, meaning it was expertly crafted by the mint from hand-selected planchets, polished dies and multiple strikes to produce beautifully frosted details rising over mirror-like fields.
