In life, Great Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II was a monarch of many “firsts.” Her coronation ceremony in 1953 was the first to be broadcast on television. In 18786, she became the first British monarch to visit China. She was also the first was also the first to address the U.S. Congress in 1991. Most famously, however, she was the first British monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, a four-day celebration in 2022 marking 70 years on the throne. And now, even at her passing, she is still creating a first by appearing alongside her son and heir, King Charles III, by appearing on a coin together for the very first time.

This “Queen to King” coin shows the profile of the two monarchs that reflects the seamless Royal Succession from the death of the beloved Queen Elizabeth II to the accession of her devoted son Charles III. The regal design was created by David Cornell, an English artist and sculptor who has designed numerous official coins from the British Royal Mint depicting members of the Royal family. It was struck in a full ounce of 99.9% fine silver with a Proof-Like (PL) finish. That means that even though this commemorative wasn’t struck as a proof, its brilliance and reflective finish has earned it a “Proof-Like” designation with fields that exhibit a higher-than-normal degree of reflectivity very much like a proof coin.
